More than 120 apartments planned in next phase of city centre redevelopment

Plans have been lodged with Sheffield City Council for the latest phase of redevelopment for the city’s Kelham Island district.

The design for 180 Shalesmoor has been created by the team at Sheffield’s CODA Architecture and marks their third collaboration with RS Sabkha Construction & Developments and Broadfield Project Management in Kelham Island.

It will see the creation of 122 apartments and one commercial unit in a six-storey development on a site alongside Corporation Street.

It comes as neighbouring CODA project Cotton Mill Row – 90 apartments and commercial units in a four-storey development on the adjacent site – nears completion.

It is another important project for the CODA team, following on from Kelham Gate and Great Central, the nine-storey 131 apartment complex in nearby Neepsend.

CODA managing director, Matt Bowker, said: “Kelham Gate, Great Central and Cotton Mill Row are in the heart of the increasingly popular former industrial heartland of the city, an area that is being transformed by imaginative design that combines the very best of Sheffield’s industrial heritage with great 21st century design.

“We have worked on many developments in Kelham Island and around Shalesmoor and Neepsend and we are confident 180 Shalesmoor will prove to be as successful as all our earlier projects.

“CODA Studios is, of course, based in Kelham island and we have been passionate supporters of the regeneration of this historic part of Sheffield for many years now.

“The design our team drew up for this latest site is excellent and very much in keeping with the ambience of the surrounding area and we can’t wait to see the next step taken in the Kelham Island success story.”
