Home builder strengthens its foundations with new division

Housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes has officially launched a new division in Sheffield.

The housebuilder, owned by parent company Barratt Developments, now has 27 divisions across the UK.

Its Sheffield division covers areas including Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Chesterfield, and plans to start seven developments in its first year.

The first of these is a Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes site in Penistone, which launched last weekend.

From July 2022 through to June 2023, Barratt and David Wilson Homes Sheffield is planning to build 100 homes for first-time buyers, professionals and families alike, which is expected to increase to 425 in its second year.

The division has already employed six board members, including Gary Chambers (managing director), Steve Sharp (construction director), David Hodgkinson (commercial director), Dave Hudson (technical director), Stewart Thomson (development director), and Stacey Berkeley (sales director).

All six of the board members have been employed internally from other Barratt Development divisions, four of which have been promoted to new roles, including Gary Chambers who was operations director for Barratt Developments’ Central Region.

Steve Sharp was a contract manager for Yorkshire East; Stewart Thomson was senior land manager for Yorkshire West; and Stacey Berkeley has progressed from being a senior sales manager for Yorkshire West.

Chambers said: “We’re extremely excited to be launching a new division in Sheffield, and we can’t wait to see development commence over the coming months.

“Sheffield and its surrounding areas offer fantastic places to live, with great commuter links and spectacular scenery.

“We’re thrilled to be contributing 100 high quality homes to the area this year, and have plans to make significant contributions to the local community.”

Berkeley added: “We recognised a need for more affordable and desirable homes within the Sheffield region and, with plans to develop 100 homes in the first year alone, we’re looking forward to helping house hunters find their dream home.

“Our ambition is to build thriving and close-knit communities across the region.”
