Multi-storey car park to be flattened to create new city gateway

A city centre multi-storey car park, owned by Bradford Council, will be knocked down from this autumn.

The NCP car park in Hall Ings is to be flattened to create a new gateway to Bradford Interchange. Work to demolish the building is due to begin in November, with the car park shutting down next month.

This project is being backed by the Transforming Cities Fund – Government cash which includes £80m for four major infrastructure projects in Bradford.

Demolition is expected to take six months. The council acquired the Hall Ings car park for £4.15m in 2017 as part of a long-term plan to improve the Interchange.

Once the car park is gone, a new entrance way to the station will be built in its place, leading to a pedestrianised Hall Ings and enlarged Norfolk Gardens park.

The Interchange works will also involve the relocating the taxi rank off Bridge Street to allow the front entrance of the station to be pedestrianised.
