Nexus delivers opportunities for collaboration and innovation at Leeds Digital Festival

One of the UK’s leading tech and digital events returns to the city this month, hosted by some of the region’s most exciting organisations.

Now in its eighth year, Leeds Digital Festival is a collaborative celebration of digital culture in all its forms. It showcases the digital enterprise and innovation that is happening in the city on a regional, national and international level.

Among the Executive Sponsors of this year’s festival is Nexus, a vibrant community for innovators and entrepreneurs based at the state-of-the-art innovation hub on the University of Leeds campus.

It brings together the brightest minds from business, technology and academia, helping to turn big ideas into reality. This can include developing a new product or growing a successful business.

Putting the ‘fun’ back into fundraising

Nexus will be leading three events at the festival including its panel discussion and networking event, Beyond Breakfast. Powered by Nexus and KPMG, it will bring together investors and entrepreneurs to discuss the rollercoaster ride that is early-stage funding for tech startups.

KPMG Acceleris and Northern Gritstone will co-chair the session which will see innovative tech startups Vet-AI and Work and Communications (WAC) explore the ‘good, the bad and the ugly’ of the fundraising journey.

Engage with the Nexus community

Nexus Connect will provide a chance to learn more about its innovation community, which includes a membership base of over 100 businesses.

Businesses can engage with Nexus in a variety of ways, ranging from becoming a member of the Nexus community, to locating their business in its high-quality office and lab space.

The networking event will provide a platform to build meaningful relationships with Nexus members, academic researchers and business leaders from across the region, and beyond.

At the end of the presentations, there will also be the opportunity to join a tour to HELIX, a brand-new hub for all digitally focused activity at the University of Leeds.

Gareth Scargill, Nexus Director, said: “We’re proud to be an Executive Sponsor of this year’s Leeds Digital Festival and bring innovative businesses together to create meaningful connections.

“We look forward to celebrating the people and organisations who make Leeds and the North such a vibrant hub for digital through an exciting programme of events.”

A global approach to solving health problems

Exploring solutions to challenges in health innovation is the focus of International Innovators. The event will be hosted by Nexus and Propel@YH, a digital health accelerator delivered by Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network.

The event will bring together innovative healthcare startups from across the globe, including North America and Norway. They’ll share their solutions on how to solve real world challenges in HealthTech, MedTech and FemTech.

Presentations and panel discussions will provide in-depth insight into how technology can solve real world challenges in health tech.

Gareth added: “Our membership base includes some of the world’s greatest innovators and we’re excited to discuss opportunities for collaboration with our community and brainstorm ideas for future projects.”
