People: Williams Solicitors: Hall Brown Family Law; and more

Private client solicitor Hugo Moore has joined Williamsons Solicitors as it looks to develop its wills and probate service.

Moore will work from the firm’s Hull and Bridlington branches using his expertise to help in matters including estate administration, will drafting and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

He is also the current Under Sheriff for the East Riding of Yorkshire, supporting the work of High Sheriff Tina Cerutti by advising on various formalities associated with the Royal office.

He said he was looking forward to contributing to the firm’s success, adding: “I gain great satisfaction working in this area of law as I enjoy forming strong relationships with my clients and working for multiple generations of the same family.”

The East Yorkshire firm, which also has a Driffield office, now has a private client team of 14 led by department head and Williamsons’ director Rebecca Bisby.

She said: “We are thrilled Hugo has joined our thriving department which is on course to becoming the most knowledgeable, trusted and well-respected private client service in the region.

“He has an excellent reputation and makes a solid addition to our hard working and committed team.”

Moore qualified in 2006 after studying law at the University of Leeds followed by York College of Law. After initially working for a large firm in Leeds, he returned to the East Riding in 2010.

Hall Brown Family Law has reinforced its commitment to help clients resolve disputes without the need for court hearings.

It has confirmed the launch of a national mediation service, which will be led from its Leeds office.

Co-founder and senior partner, Sam Hall, explained the service is being headed by new partner recruit Sarah Manning.

He added: “We have offered various forms of DR, (Dispute Resolution) including mediation, since we launched.

“That is down to our conviction that we really should be trying to help couples deal with very sensitive and sometimes difficult problems in their lives as swiftly and with as little stress as possible.

“It’s no coincidence, I think, that those services have been in increasing demand as the pressure on the family court system has grown, resulting in matters which do require court proceedings taking ever longer to conclude.

“We decided, therefore, to expand our provision of mediation, making it a truly nationwide offer and, in Sarah, we have found the ideal person to lead that service.

“She is not only immensely capable and experienced but one of the very few practicing lawyers to specialise in mediation in complex or high net worth cases – the sort of matters for which mediation has not usually been considered. It gives her and our service a quite unique perspective.

Manning, who has become Hall Brown’s 13th partner, qualified as a mediator more than a decade ago and has focused on building her practice ever since.

Although she will be based at the Leeds office, her role will include developing and co-ordinating the firm’s mediation work across all its offices.

Last month, Hall Brown opened premises in Birmingham. It also has offices in Manchester, London and Sheffield, as well as Leeds.

In November, the firm recruited Will Taylor as chief financial and operations officer. It now employs a total of 64 people, 48 of whom are fee earners.
