Care home developer lodges plans for 72-bed property on vacant site

Plans have been put forward to construct a 72-bedroom care home in Bradford.

Council planners are considering proposals for a site at Kimberwicke Walk, near Harrogate Road in Eccleshill.

The developer, Torsion Care, says this “modern, high-quality, attractive and sustainable development” would create around 75 jobs, including 50 full-time roles.

Similar plans to develop a care home on this land, which is next to the Eccleshill Retail Park, were presented by Holt Family Holdings in 2022 before being withdrawn later that year.

Torsion Care says amenities residents’ amenities would include dining lounges, a hair salon, assisted bathrooms and clinics, a music room, wellness suite, activity room and a sports lounge.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application explains: “The proposal represents an inward investment that would make effective use of the undeveloped and vacant application site and enhance this area of Bradford, which is in a highly accessible location.

“While the care facility has a demonstrable benefit through creating care home beds for the elderly, a 72-bed care home also creates around 75 jobs (50 full-time and 25 part-time), providing employment opportunities for those that live in the surrounding area.

“This would lead to increased spending in the local economy, providing an economic benefit to existing shops and services located nearby.”

A decision on the planning application is expected in July.
