A COMMUNITY sports initiative has been given a boost after receiving funding from Yorkshire home builder Strata.

Not for profit organisation Access to Sport and Recreation has received £10,000 from Strata to help fund its regeneration of the former Miners Welfare Sports and Social Club, formerly known as the ‘Stute’ on Brierley Road in Grimethorpe.

Strata, which is building 106 new homes on Burntwood Road which neighbours the sports ground, was approached by Access to Sport and Recreation to contribute funding for the regeneration of the six acre sports ground.

Strata supported the community scheme with an immediate donation of £5,000 and then appealed to the local borough council to release a further £5,000 directly to the initiative from the monies that Strata would pay to them as part of the planning conditions for the Aspect development in Grimethorpe.
