Civil service union relocates

BRITAIN’S largest civil service union is relocating to a city centre office development in a move which will see the building become 95% let.

The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) has taken 6,315 sq ft of office space on the third floor of the refurbished six-storey Town Centre House at the Merrion Centre in Leeds.

The letting leaves just over 2,000 sq ft left to let in the building, which is owned and managed by the Leeds-based development and investment company Town Centre Securities.

Town Centre House, which was originally built in the 1960s by Yorkshire businessman Arnold Ziff, has undergone a £7m refurbishment.

Tenants include construction management consultants Gleeds, Town Centre Securities themselves, Thomson Directories, revenue management company First Locate, The Children’s Society, consulting engineers Hoare Lea and the Business Internet Directory.

Helen Beckett, asset manager at Town Centre Securities, said: “We are understandably delighted to have almost filled Town Centre House in a tremendously challenging market. The deal with the PCS, which has just been completed, is one of the most significant in Leeds this year.

“We believe the key to the success of Town Centre House is the quality of the refurbishment and its excellent location, together with the value and flexibility of our terms and the green credentials of the development. This is a winning combination.

“Town Centre House, which boasts a striking Yorkshire stone facade, is the first wholly-refurbished Leeds property to achieve an `excellent’ Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating on completion.”

PCS has relocated from Lisbon House off Wellington Street in Leeds.

The marketing agents for Town Centre House are Jones Lang LaSalle and Sanderson Weatherall.
