Filtronic returns to the black

WIRELESS communications equipment manufacturer Filtronic has moved back into profit, the company said today.

A strong end to its trading year saw the company record sales of £13m, £1m above its previous estimates.

Shipley-based Filtronic said its broadband business performed better than expected in April and May in both sales and profits and was helped by currency movements in its favour.

The firm’s wireless business also finished the year strongly, particularly through sales in the US market.

In a stockmarket update Filtronic also sounded a positive note on its prospects for the year ahead.

Last year, Filtronic posted a pre-tax loss of £7m on revenues of £15.5m. Its results for the year to the end of May will be announced in full next month.
