ITM secures EU fuel cell grant

CLEAN fuel firm ITM Power is part of a group that has won £3.1m to develop better fuel cells for cars.

The money has been awarded by the European Union to a consortium of 12 organisations with Sheffield-based ITM securing £480,000 for its part in the project.

ITM Power chief technology officer Simon Bourne said: “ITM Power is delighted to be part of this project which brings together leading fuel cell technologies to address key challenges for the next generation of automotive fuel cells.

“The project will also strengthen relationships with the fuel cell component supply chain; an important aspect of our strategy and complimentary to our work with the Carbon Trust.”

The project, known as IMPACT, will take three years to complete and will be led by the German Aerospace Centre.
