Construction of specialist care home underway

WORK has commenced on a new £750,000 specialist care home in Bradford.

Yorkshire-based Horizon Healthcare Homes has secured funding from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) to construct the new home, which will be named Beckside Lodge and is set to create 20 local jobs.

The eight-bed, specialist care unit, to be completed by September, will be the fifth care home owned and run by Horizon. It’s expected to be open for residents in October.

RBS provided the company with a development finance loan facility to aid construction of the project.

Construction on Beckside Lodge began last month and the home is being built on the site of the former Cap & Bells pub. It will provide specialist accommodation for up to eight individuals. Recruitment for the care team will start in July.

Horizon Healthcare Homes specialises in building new homes offering care for adults with learning difficulties who may also suffer from physical disability or sensory impairment.

Relationship director, healthcare, at RBS, Maxine Gay, said: “As a bank, we fully recognise the importance of supporting businesses in the care home sector and I am delighted to have been able to offer Horizon Healthcare Homes a development finance loan facility to aid construction of this project in Bradford. Work is now well underway and we are excited to see the finished result in September.”

Managing director of Horizon Healthcare Homes, Roger Williams, said the business is “very excited” about this latest project.

He said: “As with all of our homes, we want to offer the highest standard of care to our residents and by investing in brand new, purpose built facilities we can ensure that individuals are cared for in an environment that is adapted to meet their needs. The support that we have received from RBS has been vital in ensuring that we can deliver our aims and provide the best possible service to our residents.”

Horizon Healthcare Homes organisation has three existing premises in Huddersfield – Langley Lodge, Hampton House and Ferndale Lodge; and another called Cranmer Court in Leeds.
