Anthony’s Restaurant shuts

TOP Yorkshire restaurant Anthony’s has closed its doors.
The restaurant in the Corn Exchange in Leeds, shut last Friday along with all the other ventures run by acclaimed chef Anthony Flinn and his father, also called Anthony.
It is believed that the business, which was first established on Boar Lane in 2004, has been put into administration.
Anthony’s, Piazza by Anthony and Rib Shakk were all located in the historic Corn Exchange building in Leeds City Centre while sister establishment, the cafe Anthony’s Patisserie in the Victoria Quarter, has also closed.
The businesses employed around 70 staff.
GBR Phoenix Beard, the managing agent of the landlord of the Corn Exchange, said in a statement: “We were saddened to hear that Anthony’s Restaurants have closed.
“The Corn Exchange is most certainly open for business and we have two new retailers about to join our 23 existing independent shops and boutiques, as well as cafes from Primo’s.
“We hope that Leeds people will continue to show their support for these original, individual, largely owner-run businesses.”
Anthony’s moved from Boar Lane to the Corn Exchange last year and the venture had occupied the entire lower ground floor level of the iconic Corn Exchange.
Anthony’s won plaudits from food critics after its opening in 2004 with chef Anthony Flinn creating ground breaking dishes in the kitchen while his father fronted the restaurant and ran the business.
The restaurant won such acclaim that it was even tipped for a Michelin star in the past.
The Leeds office of chartered surveyors Eddisons was appointed to dispose of the assets.
Richard Temple, who is handling the disposal, said: “It is sad when such a well known business runs into difficulties and is a blow to the Corn Exchange.
“We will be working hard with the management team to dispose of the assets as quickly as possible.”
Full details of the closure have not yet emerged, with those behind Anthony’s having not yet made a statement on its closure or what their future plans are.
