News in brief:  SME’s costs up; Award for generous employees and more

SHEFFIELD Chamber of Commerce has picked up a hat trick of award nominations, in recognition of its RE:Inventing the City event.

The Chamber is a finalist in three categories at the first ever Northern Marketing Awards, for the marketing campaign behind the successful event this summer.

RE:Inventing the City has been shortlisted for Most Successful Launch Strategy, Most Effective Use of a Sponsor Partnership and Most Effective Use of International Marketing.

The June event, Sheffield’s second business and economic summit, was organised by Sheffield Chamber in association with Creative Sheffield and Sheffield City Council.

Chamber representatives will attend the prestigious awards ceremony at the Gosforth Marriott Hotel, Newcastle upon Tyne on Thursday, October 23.

SMALL businesses in Yorkshire and the Humber are facing both rising costs and loss of customers as the economic crisis bites.

Research carried out by BT revealed more than half of businesses reported worsening trading conditions, compared with just 9% who saw an improvement.

In this region, 61% experienced rising costs, compared with a national figure of 57%.

Around 40% had lost customers, compared with 51% nationally.

The results were released at the start of this year’s Small Business Week.

YORKSHIRE and Clydesdale Banks have been awarded ‘Best Employer and Charity Promotion’ at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards.

The banks won the award for promoting Payroll Giving to their employees.

The Payroll Giving scheme allows employees to donate to any UK registered charity by giving a direct deduction from their wage.

The bank worked alongside Workplace Giving UK, an award winning professional fundraising organisation which raises awareness of Payroll Giving in the workplace, to promote the scheme to its UK workforce.

An impressive 15% of Yorkshire and Clydesdale Banks’ UK employees now donate to charity through Payroll Giving.

As a result of Yorkshire and Clydesdale Banks’ Payroll Giving programme, more than £148,000 is now raised annually by bank employees for various charities.
