Morrisons digital boss quits

THE head of digital development at Yorkshire supermarket chain Morrisons has quit, it is understood.

According to reports, Simon Harrow is to leave the retailer.

The former chief operating officer at Kiddicare moved to Morrisons after the supermarket snapped up the baby products business in 2011.

Harrow is responsible for digital and platform development at Kiddicare, which Morrisons announced last month it was selling.

The news follows the announcement in January that the man hired to oversee the day-to-day running of Morrisons’ online grocery service had resigned.

George Dymond quit just weeks after joining the firm.

Prior to joining the Bradford-based group, Dymond was group general manager of merchandise at Coles, the Australian retailer.

He re-emerged at rival supermarket giant Tesco as operations development director.

Last month Morrisons revealed it slumped to a £176m loss last year and expects the challenging market to continue for the rest of this year.

The Bradford-based group went from a profit of £879m the year before to a loss of £176m in the 12 months to February.

Chairman Sir Ian Gibson called it a “disappointing year for Morrisons” as turnover fell by 2% to £17.7bn for the UK’s fourth biggest supermarket chain.

He said that consumer confidence and market conditions had continued to be challenging and the challenging consumer and market environment in 2013 would continue through the coming year.

The company was hit by a one-off £903m exceptional cost, due to property costs and a disappointing performance from Kiddicare, which it is planning to sell along with Fresh Direct, its wholesale fresh food service business.
