Scarborough hotels sold in separate deals

TWO Scarborough hotels, The Grade-II listed The Crescent Hotel overlooking The Crescent Gardens and the Scarborough Fayre on Queen’s Parade, have been sold in separate deals.

The Leeds-based hotels agency team at property consultants Colliers International has sold the terrace-style The Crescent Hotel on behalf of the owners to The Bloomsbury Property Company (Scarborough). Sadie Shard, a director of The Bloomsbury Property Company, has worked in Scarborough’s tourism sector for a number of years.

The hotel, which was on the market for £975,000, has 22 en suite letting bedrooms, bar, restaurant and meeting facilities for up to 50 people, catering for both leisure and business visitors.

Peter Bean, hotels agency director at Colliers International, said: “The former owners acquired The Crescent Hotel in 2002 and after 12 years at the helm, looking after this much-loved hotel, they are set to retire. This has given buyers an opportunity to acquire a very well located and long established town hotel and we wish the new owners The Bloomsbury Property Company (Scarborough) Limited, led by Sadie Shard, every success.”

Fleurets, acting on behalf of owner Bob McKee, sold the freehold hotel Scarborough Fayre for an undisclosed sum off an asking price of £430,000.

A substantial property forming part of a terrace of properties, the Scarborough Fayre has 27 letting bedrooms, residents’ lounge and a dining room with seating for 60.

Nick Thomas of Fleurets Leeds said: “The Scarborough Fayre was acquired by our client in 2007, since which time it has been run at arms length, with live-in management and trading on a simple bed and breakfast basis. The new owner, after a programme of refurbishment, plans to continue running it as bed and breakfast.”

The new owner is Global Homes & Property Limited, a South-East based property investment company, which plans to run the hotel in conjunction with their other hotels based in the Midlands, Merseyside and West Yorkshire, after completing a refurbishment programme.
