Long-awaited Hotel Indigo to create 40 jobs

A HOTEL being built on a former motorcycle showroom site in York, creating around 40 jobs is about to be completed after a long wait.

The Splendid Hospitality Group, which owns Yorkshire’s only 5 star hotel, The Grand Hotel and Spa in York, is building Hotel Indigo on Infinity motorbike site im Walmgate and is set to open this summer.

S Harrison Developments said that the three storey, 120-bed hotel will further boost tourism in the city.

Harrison originally received planning permission after submitting an application in 2010.

Hotel Indigo York will be themed to reflect York’s chocolate heritage and to mark the imminent arrival of this new boutique hotel, York Cocoa House has created a special giant Easter egg.

Mike Sweeting, who has been recently appointed as hotel manager said: “I am delighted to be joining the Splendid Hospitality Group and launching Hotel Indigo York. I am currently recruiting for senior positions within the hotel and it is this team that will help me get the hotel ready to open this summer.”

Harrison teamed up with award winning York architects Crease Strickland Parkins to design the hotel.
