Appointments: Langleys, ICE, Gripple

THE Commercial Law division of Langleys Solicitors has named Tim Cross as its new head.

Mr Cross, who is also Head of the Commercial Property Unit, will oversee and further develop the Langleys division.

Langleys has offices in York and Lincoln and employs almost 400 people with an annual turnover of more than £20m.

Mr Cross said: “It’s an exciting and challenging time for our commercial division. The market is undoubtedly picking up and we feel this presents tremendous opportunities for further growth of our business.

“One of my main aims is to ensure that we attract the best talent to the firm across the commercial division and maintain our high quality service standards as we continue to grow. I also plan to raise our profile in York and Lincoln and make sure people know about our fantastic achievements for clients.”

Langleys has also confirmed that partner Andrew Fearn will continue as Deputy Managing Partner and Head of Private Law. These latest appointments follow the re-election of David Thompson as Managing Partner of Langleys, extending the role that he has held for six years for a further three-year period.

Chris Bevington with ICE President Professor David BalmforthYork senior civil engineer, Chris Bevington, has been awarded membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), a body representing the 80,000 civil engineers across the world who design, build and maintain our transport, water, energy, waste and flood infrastructure.

Mr Bevington was presented with his membership certificate by ICE president, Professor David Balmforth at a special ceremony held at ICE’s headquarters in Westminster, London.

Penny Marshall, ICE Yorkshire and Humber regional director, said: “Civil engineering sits right at the heart of society. It is all about shaping, improving and protecting the infrastructure that we all depend on in our day-to-day lives – from bridges, roads and railways right through to energy networks and water and waste infrastructure.

“Achieving Chartered Civil engineer status is a significant personal and career achievement and we welcome Chris into the ICE.”

Mr Bevington said: “Since deciding to be an engineer – achieving Chartered status was one of my main targets. It means that I have professional recognition of the work and experience I have built up.”

Shaun Khan Gripple chairman Hugh Facey and Ed StubbsGripple Ltd has appointed Ed Stubbs as managing director of the employee-owned manufacturer of the wire fastener.

He was transferred from the same role at its sister company, Loadhog, the transit packaging innovator.

Shaun Khan,has been moved into the top position as general manager at Loadhog after setting up and running a Gripple operation in India, which continues to thrive under new leadership.
Mr Stubbs started at Gripple’s base in the United States and in 2005 joined Loadhog as a product manager.

Four years later Mr Stubbs was appointed its general manager and in 2010 his climb up the Gripple ‘family’ ladder continued when he became managing director of Loadhog.

He said: “After ten years at Loadhog it is a great privilege and a very exciting challenge to return to Gripple Ltd as managing director.

“I look forward to working with the incredibly dedicated and passionate people we have around the globe to grow the business significantly, particularly through the development and introduction of new products.”

Mr Khan started at Gripple’s Sheffield headquarters as a product manager in 2003. He was moved with his family to New Delhi in 2010 to establish as general manager a Gripple base aimed at developing the promising market, again for the company’s range of construction products.

Mr Khan commented: “I am excited by this new challenge to build on Loadhog’s recent success. As a market leading innovator in reusable transit packaging solutions, I would like Loadhog to continue to develop and market cutting edge solutions that change the face of global supply chains.

“As an employee-owned company this is a special business where the team spirit is excellent. I look forward to continuing the growth of this truly exceptional business.”
