Rotary UK makes acquisition

Rotary UK, a building services contractor with an operation in Yorkshire, has bought Birmingham-based competitor CA Sothers UK for an undisclosed sum.

Chester-based Rotary, which is part of the £1bn-turnover Australian construction business Hastie Group, already has bases in Leeds, the North East, London, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but this latest deal will also give it a presence in the Midlands.

CA Sothers was set up in 1919 and has remained in family hands since. Its clients are primarily in the leisure, retail, commercial healthcare and education sectors.

Managing director Robert Hinton – who is one of the third generation of family members to run the business, will remain with the company alongside other members of its management team.

Rob Kirkham, business development director at Rotary, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for us to work with a business that has the experience of more than 90 years in the industry, and one that will enable us to grow into new regions.

“Sothers will bring valuable local and technical knowledge as we continue to expand our business across the UK, and work towards our vision to be the provider of choice for building services to the most advanced industry standards.”

Rotary was advised on the acquisition by law firm Cobbetts.
