Fulcrum to build £4m pipeline to Scottish distilleries

FULCRUM, the Sheffield-based provider of utilties infrastructure, has won a £3.95m contract to build an eight-mile gas pipeline to four Scottish distilleries.
The deal is being funded by Chivas Brothers, Diageo and Ian MacLeod Distillers with the pipeline linking the Speyside distilleries – Tamdhu, Dalmunach, Cardhu and Knockando – to the main gas network.
The gas supply will be used for half of the year, between April 1 and September 30, when domestic usage is lower. This will enable the distilleries to reduce their reliance on fuel oil, which is delivered by tankers, and the change will positively impact on their carbon footprint.
Last year Fulcrum completed a 16-mile pipeline for Chivas Brothers, Diageo and Angus Dundee connecting four other Speyside distilleries.
Martin Donnachie, Chief Executive of Fulcrum, said: “We are delighted to be further endorsing our relationship with Scotland’s historic whisky industry by the award of this second prestigious contract. Not only are the distilleries enabled to further strengthen their gas infrastructure but they will be able to achieve long-term environmental efficiencies.”
Work on the pipeline is scheduled to begin next month and when complete will deliver approximately 4,700 cubic metres of gas every hour to the distilleries.
