Infrastructure for Thorpe Park as next phase gets underway

DEVELOPER Scarborough Group International is starting work on the infrastructure surrounding its flagship Thorpe Park development in Leeds.
The development now underway includes the first phase of the East Leeds Orbital Road that will connect the M1 to north-east Leeds.
This is in preparation for the delivery of up to 7,000 new homes in the East Leeds Extension, the City’s largest single growth area.
Leeds-based GMI Construction, the strategic construction partner to the scheme,has started ground preparation works and is in the process of extracting 200,000 tonnes of coal from the site.
The firm recently received planning permission for 60,000 sq ft offices which will be developed speculatively for completion in summer 2016.
In January the council also approved plans for 300 homes on the site. By 2017 Scarborough is planning on delivering a 250,000 sq ft retail and leisure complex and a 4.92 million sq ft public park with sports facilities.
Scarborough’s founder Kevin McCabe met on site with Councillor Richard Lewis, executive member for Regeneration, Transport and Planning at Leeds City Council to discuss the infrastructure improvements.

Thorpe Park Leeds is expected to create over 13,000 jobs, including nearly 4000 local employment opportunities for the Leeds City Region.
