Yorkshire inn crowned at the Great British Pub Awards

A YORKSHIRE pub, The Chequers Inn at Bilton-in-Ainsty, has won the regional ‘Best Wine Bar/Pub’ category of the Great British Pub Awards.

Part of the Ainsty Group, the pub fought off strong competition from pubs across the Yorkshire, the North East, and Scotland in The Publican Morning Advertiser’s awards.

The pub is one of three that form Yorkshire pub company Ainsty Inns, under the ownership of Antony Pratt which was founded in 2012.

Mr Pratt said: “To have been selected as the regional winner in such a prestigious and highly regarded national industry awards programme is a huge honour for our flagship pub.

“We strive to locate and offer only the best wines, ranging from local Yorkshire suppliers to exceptional producers of wine from across the continent. We also work hard to provide all staff with training which gives them the expertise needed to be considered as one of Britain’s best wine bars!”

“The award success is testament to the outstanding wines we offer to our customers and the strong team ethos we have at The Chequers. We’ll certainly be having a glass to celebrate!”

The Chequers Inn works closely with wine suppliers including Hallgarten Druitt Wines and Yorkshire Vintners to offer wines that complement the food it offers.

Plans to build upon The Chequers’ wine credentials have been laid out with the planned launch of a wine club at The Chequers Inn where customers will be able to purchase wines by the case and view tasting and buying tips on a dedicated YouTube channel.

The Great British Pub Awards ceremony will be being held on 10th September at London’s Park Lane Hilton hotel.
