Topping-out of office development "marks the revival of confidence" in Sheffield

A topping-out ceremony has been held on site at the 10-storey 3 St Paul’s Place, the final part of the pioneering £130 million Heart of the City project and the first speculative office building in Sheffield to be developed since the recession.

The 76,000 sq ft office development went ahead following a landmark agreement between developers CTP and Development Securities with Sheffield City Council and the Department for Communities and Local Government.

David Topham, director of Manchester-based developers CTP, said: “The Topping Out ceremony, which took place on the roof of 3 St Paul’s Place, heralds the imminent completion of the building and marks the revival of confidence in Sheffield city centre.

“It was a proud moment for all the team associated with the development of 3 St Paul’s Place and I am delighted to report that there has been huge interest in the building already. We are poised to announce a major letting to a household name at a record office rent for Sheffield and there is also substantial interest in the rest of the office space.”

Cllr Leigh Bramall, the deputy leader of Sheffield City Council, performed the Topping Out ceremony on the 10th floor with Mr Topham, tightening the final bolt of the steel and concrete framed structure. Mr Topham also placed laurel leaves within the structure “as a symbol of good luck and recognition of the role nature plays in man’s civic ambitions”.
