Yorkshire businesswoman appointed to senior CBI role

THIRSK-BASED businesswomen Henrietta Jowitt has been appointed as the CBI’s managing director, commercial.
Ms Jowitt will join the CBI in the new year and will be responsible for developing the group’s membership proposition, leading the CBI’s regional teams across the country, and creating new member services with a focus on supporting and enabling businesses to grow.
She has held senior marketing roles at Cushman & Wakefield, Schroders and Advent International and has spent the last three years running her own business strategy consultancy, Rotation Point, in Yorkshire.
It is the second appointment made by new director-general Carolyn Fairbairn, who took over from John Cridland last month.  Josh Hardie is leaving his position as group director for corporate responsibility at Tesco to join the CBI in the newly-created role of managing director, policy and campaigns.
Ms Fairbairn said: “With an extensive background in business strategy and marketing at a variety of blue chip firms, as well as a hands-on understanding of the challenges entrepreneurs face through setting up her own business and working in private equity, Henrietta is extraordinarily well placed to develop innovative services for members.
“As well as leading on commercial activity for the CBI, Henrietta will also champion our drive to go digital with more responsive member services that link up our business networks across the UK.”
Ms Jowitt added: “Carolyn has an exciting and challenging agenda to support and enable UK growth through its members, working with firms of all sizes, including smaller and medium-sized firms who are a critical engine of our future prosperity in the UK. I am really looking forward to working with her and the team to deliver on this agenda.”
