Fashion retailer enjoys strong Christmas as it maintains fast growth

ONLINE fashion retailer ASOS had a strong autumn and Christmas, with sales increasing by more than one-fifth and it having 10m active customers for the first time.
Record sales over “cyber weekend” in late November and further growth in average order frequency, average basket value and number of orders, alongside an acceleration in active customer growth, all contributed to the rising sale.
In its 2015 financial year, to August, Asos broke £1bn for the first time and set its sights on its next “staging post” of £2.5bn.
Its first trading figures since then, for the four months to December, has set it on its way, growing total revenue by £86m to £459.7m.
Nick Beighton, Asos chief executive, said: “We have traded well through peak and are continuing to invest in the future growth of the business. We are on track with our plans for the year as a whole.”
Asos trades globally – 46% of its retail sales comes from the UK, 25% from Europe, 11% from America and the remaining  18% from the rest of the world.
In 2015, Asos consolidated its bulk stock storage to its Barnsley warehouse, where is added a mezzanine level to increase capacity by one million units. The retailer also has a returns processing centre in Selby during the year.
