What’s on: at Yorkshire’s restaurants

The restaurants of Yorkshire may be experiencing a bit of a lull at the moment… people are still nursing month-long hangovers and their bank balances have taken a hit over the festive period.

Thankfully there are some new places to try to brighten the dark days at the beginning of the year.

The owners of Leeds’ oldest pub, Whitelock’s Ale House are launching the next chapter in their 300-year history.

On 30 January, The Turk’s Head, a collaboration between Whitelock’s and The Five Points Brewing Company, will open its doors.

A nod to Whitelock’s original name, which it was originally known by since its founding in 1715. The site has been stripped out and redesigned in conjunction with Lord Whitney, “connoisseurs of make-believe”.

Craft beers and cocktails will be the cornerstone of the drinking experience at The Turk’s Head.

Ilkley Brewery and Cloudwater are also helping Five Points on the beer front.

Whittakers gin joins the lineup of independent drinks manufacturers and purveyors.

Sienna O’Rourke will be designing the cocktail menu with classics like the Old Fashioned as well as an IPA cocktail.

A Victorian themed menu from head chef Robbie Andrews will feature homemade pork scratchings, crispy pig’s ears with caper tartar sauce, deep fried cauliflower with spiced yoghurt and the Turk’s Head pickle plate.

Ed Mason, owner of Turk’s Head/ Whitelock’s and the Five Points Brewing Company said: “Whitelock’s as John Betjeman once famously said, is the very heart of Leeds. We have served the discerning drinkers of Leeds for 300 years, and The Turk’s Head is the latest chapter in our history.

“We love Whitelock’s and nothing will be changing in the main bar – but The Turk’s Head gives us the opportunity to showcase an even wider range of independent UK breweries and interesting drinks producers, and encourage even more people to come to our wonderful pub which has been at the heart of the local community for the past three centuries.”

Monday to Thursday – 4pm – Midnight
Friday – 4pm – 1am
Saturday – 12pm – 1am
Sunday – 12pm – 11pm
