Sheffield United chairman “open to proposals” for the club

SHEFFIELD UNITED chairman Kevin McCabe has conceded that the club has had some “dark days” and would be open to proposals from “level-headed” businessmen.

The club was relegated from the Premier League in 2007. Mr McCabe said they had spent “far too long” in League One.

The long standing chairman and businessman behind the Scarborough Group, said fans had a right to expect more, but there was much being done behind the scenes to improve the lot of Sheffield United.

Mr McCabe said that the joint owners have invested £8m in the club in this season alone.

Overall, the McCabe family investment has reached £90m. Co-chairman Saudi Prince Abdullah’s has contributed £15m to the club since becoming part owner in 2013.

Over £1.8m has been spent on property improvements including upgrading the pitch and synthetic coverings to the outdoor and indoor pitches at Shirecliffe.

He did however concede that mistakes had been made, and despite investing in more than 40 new players in the past four seasons, the “costly” recruitments had not made an impact.

Mr McCabe said: “I gather certain supporters have questioned my role in events during the last couple of seasons and suggest that it is time for me to move on.

“I can only say that for as long I am here serving Sheffield United I will continue to do my utmost to bring success to a Club that I have been a fan of since I was a nipper.

“However, if there are level headed businessmen, either local, national or international who can clearly demonstrate that they have the credentials to work on enhancing the progress of Sheffield United FC, then they should make contact as I am prepared to listen to their proposals.”
