Challenger law firm looks to swell its ranks in Yorkshire

CHALLENGER law firm gunnercooke is looking to expand, embarking on a recruitment drive.

The firm was founded in Manchester in 2010, initially as a corporate and private equity focused business.

Now it has expanded into a full corporate and commercial law firm and is looking to expand its presence in Yorkshire.

gunnercooke, which is led by chief executive Anna Beaumont, has doubled in size since October 2014, now counting 100 partners.

It is aiming to double in size by the end of 2016, using its alternative model to its advantage.

With a fixed fee model and cloud-based processes, it says its lawyers can work anywhere at any time.

There are only senior lawyers in the business, with a minimum of 10,000 hours practicing experience.

Georgina Tripp joined gunnercooke from the banking and finance team at Addleshaw Goddard, where she worked for 12 years.

She said: “When I joined, the business was very much in the early stages of growth, but the unique model and ambitious plans for the future really appealed to me.”

Paul Menham joined the firm as an employment partner, bringing with him 16 years of experience, including six spent at DWF, whilst Rebecca Kelly, specialises in commercial and intellectual property and has has been practising for over 14 years

She said: “I was drawn to gunnercooke as I wanted to maintain an active and fulfilling law career that I could balance with my family life, and was impressed with the firm’s rapid growth.

“The nature of gunnercooke is such that you are totally autonomous and able to use your best skills to deliver results. Being totally flexible means that the service I am now able to provide is more akin to that of an in-house lawyer, and I can spend more time getting to know my clients, gaining a better understanding of their business.”
