Whiskey and wine lovers get a taste of new venture at country hall

THE owners of Gisborough Hall in North Yorkshire have unveiled their recent renovation project which offers a new experience for wine and whisky lovers.

‘The Safe’ was originally home to the Gisborough family’s private documents and deeds to the hall and their estates and dates back to the 1850s.

Until recently it had remained disused within the inner hall area, next to Chaloner’s restaurant.

As part of a rolling programme of re-investment at Gisborough Hall, the space has been fully renovated and is now home to unique wines and whiskies.

It is now being used for tasting events and by guests pre or post dinner. Some of the more unusual offerings include ‘Vin Santo’, a Tuscan speciality served with biscotti, and whiskies from Japan and India.

Gisborough Hall last year unveiled its new rooms and suites following a £400,000 investment.

Kim Yardley, general manager, said: “In recent months Gisborough Hall has undergone some interesting changes with the refurbishment of rooms, our bar and parts of the hall. We’re exceptionally proud of our history and the links with the Gisborough family, who still live on site, and we really wanted to make something of The Safe as it is very beautiful.

“We’ve brought it back to life and guests are really intrigued- it’s become quite a talking point. But it’s also proving popular with whisky and wine lovers who appreciate the wide variety we now have on offer.”

The grade II-listed country house was fully restored in 2002 following an investment of more than £10m by the Gisborough family, who privately own the hotel itself. The hotel is a Macdonald Associate hotel.
