Entrepreneur launches Leeds’ best kept beauty secret

ENTREPRENEUR Nargas Harrison has launched what will soon become a Leeds gem, in the form of Yorkshire Blow Dry.
The salon, in Central Arcade just off Briggate, is on its way to becoming Leeds’ best kept beauty secret. Nargas said it grew from the London trend of the blow dry, an import from the US.
Nargas got the ball rolling on the salon, which opened just before Christmas in 2015 with help from her husband, an Ilkley businessman. It is her first venture.
“Down in London there are blow dry bars everywhere,” Nargas said. “There’s definitely a market in Leeds for a warm, open and friendly place, you can even bring kids. That’s how a salon should be. Walking into bigger salons you get judged on how you dress, they want you in and out quickly, we want to be an antidote to these conveyor belt salons.”
Tucked away on the upstairs platform of Central Arcade, Yorkshire Blow Dry provides some much-needed solitude from the hustle and bustle of town.
They are now offering makeup from another Leeds brand, High Definition, on top of traditional hairdressing and blow drying.
Nargas said: “If you want to be anonymous, come in dressed down or dressed up for a night out and want a glass of prosecco, if you’re knackered after the gym, or are just feeling lazy, then this is the place for you.”
Yorkshire Blow Dry is open Tuesday-Friday from 10am, and Saturday from 9am. Prices start from £25.
