Plans unveiled for former £100m golf resort sold off by liquidators

PLANS have been unveiled for the Flaxby development following its sale by liquidators earlier this year.

The company behind the plans, Flaxby Park Ltd, has now acquired further land, bringing total acreage to 440, up from 280 acres originally.

It intends to build up to 3,500 homes on the site, as well as a school, health centre and leisure facilities.

A rail halt or small station is also in the plans, connecting the area to the Harrogate to York/Leeds lines.

Flaxby Park Ltd has already submitted their planning representation to Harrogate District Council for officers and members to consider.

The ill-fated development was bought by HUTC and subsidiary Flaxy Park Ltd in April 2016. Previously it had been under the ownership of Skelwith Leisure, a Skelwith Group company which went into liquidation following a winding up petition against it by the former owners of the land.

The Armstrongs, a farming family, objected to plans to turn the site into what would effectively be a small town. They argued that they had only agreed to sell the land on the provision if would be turned into a golf and spa resort.

Now, representatives of Flaxby Park Ltd have updated plans for the former Flaxby Park golf course.

Ray Mallon, spokesman for Flaxby Park Ltd said at the time of the sale that the Flaxby development suffered from “numerous false dawns” but that the new owners can offer a “bright future” to the area.

Mr Mallon said: “We have always been clear that this would be a sustainable development with a range of housing and community facilities, with open green space and in keeping with the local area.

“I have also indicated that we would engage parish councils and the public, so that the community as a whole can contribute to our thinking in taking the development forward.”
