5 things to do in Yorkshire this weekend

Not sure what to do this weekend? We’ve compiled a list of five things to do across the region from a spectacular firework show for Bonfire night to a market where you can sort all your Christmas presents nice and early.
1. After Dark
Date: Saturday 5th November
Location: Don Valley Grass Bowl, Sheffield
With a huge selection of food stalls selling everything from burgers to candyfloss, a large roaring bonfire, a giant funfair, a bar and fireworks set to music, After Dark is the only place to be this Bonfire night. Tickets are £11 in advance and £12 on the day.
2. Hull Comedy Festival
Date: Thursday 4th – Sunday 20th November
Location: Various venues across Hull
The festival that many Yorkshire folk know and love returns this year, marking its tenth year of stand-up comedy. Combining the biggest names with special shows and brand new local acts, the volunteer-run festival hopes to increase the appetite for shows and comedy clubs.
3. York Early Christmas Festival
Date: Monday 31st October – Sunday 5th November
Location: Parliament Street, York
This week-long show offers impatient Christmas shoppers the opportunity to discover unique and quality Christmas gifts before the December rush kicks in.
This show is great for those locals and visitors alike to explore a rich variety of arts and crafts.
From jewellery to ceramics, textiles to wood, photography to art, tea to art, the York Early Christmas Festival has everything to suit your gifting needs.
4. The Wipers Times
Date: Thursday 3rd – Saturday 5th November
Location: Sheffield Lyceum, Sheffield
Come along and watch the stage adaptation of the award-winning BBC film by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman. The production tells the true story of the satirical newspaper created amid the mud and mayhem of the Somme, interspersed with comic sketches and spoofs from the vivid imagination of those on the front line.
Far from being a sombre journal about life in the trenches, they produced a resolutely cheerful, subversive and very funny newspaper designed to lift the spirits of the men on the front line.
5. Leeds MoRunners
Date: Saturday 5th November
Location: Temple Newsam Road, Leeds
Join hundreds of runners this weekend as they don their fancy dress costumes and rock their impressive mustache growth in celebration of Movember. Whether you want to run a 5k race, or take on the big 10k, by joining in you’ll be supporting men’s health and helping to raise funds to stop men dying young, whilst at the same time having a fun, active day out with like-minded people!
