Tuffnells Parcels delivers on expansion plans as work starts on £3.3m depot

Work is underway on a £3.3m depot in South Yorkshire for Tuffnells Parcels Express.

Sheffield based contractor JF Finnegan has been appointed to build a new facility comprising warehouse and office accommodation at Zone 6 in Sheffield Business Park.

Work is scheduled for completion in August.

Sheffield Business Park is occupied by companies including Fujitsu Siemens, HSBC, South Yorkshire Police and Stanley UK, and more than 900,000 sq ft of future development is proposed.

Zone 6 is a six acre plot to the western end of the park and is already home to NHS Ambulance Fleet Management Service, VW Gilders Van Centre and DBL Logistics.

The joint venture team of JF Finnegan and Sheffield Business Park, Broomco, sold the land at Zone 6 in separate land sales to Tuffnells Parcels Express and JCT 600 in 2015.

Tuffnells Parcels Express, which has its HQ nearby, bought 3.55 acres to develop the new depot and JCT 600 purchased a 0.10 acre plot to expand its existing operations at Zone 6 where its VW Gilders Van Centre is in operation.

Chris Ward, managing director of Tuffnells, said: “At Tuffnells Parcels Express we are investing heavily in our health and safety, training and services, but as this move shows, also in our people. Many Tuffnell’s employees in the Sheffield depot have been with us for decades and this state of the art new working environment is a great way to boost motivation and show our appreciation for years of hard work.  As well as a new modern look, the increased space for vehicles means we can not only improve customer service levels, but also open up new local job opportunities.”

Dawa Singh, head of pre-construction at JF Finnegan, said:  “Having originally sold the land to Tuffnells, we are pleased to be working with the specialists in next day business to business UK delivery on the new warehouse after a long value engineering process.  We are returning to Sheffield Business Park, after working as developer contractors over the years. The new facility will be an excellent addition to this immensely successful business park.”

Bond Bryan Architects is appointed project architect.
