Conferencing – The real economic value the sector generates for Leeds

Leeds was ranked the fourth most popular conferencing city in the UK in a recent British Meetings and Events Industry survey (BMEIS).Business visitors are playing a growing part in a tourism industry which contributed £212.7m to the local economy in 2017. At this roundtable, sponsored by Conference Leeds and hosted at Gilbanks, the city’s organisers, venues and bodies discussed how the city can maximise upon this potential. They talked about why conferencing is of such importance to the city; the value it brings; how the city attracts and retains the major conferences; visitor impact and how this supports various sectors including transport, hotels and hospitality, culture, nighttime economy; the importance of collaboration; and much more.
