Macildowie set to relocate as students move in

Yet more Nottingham office space could be turned into student accommodation, TheBusinessDesk.com can reveal – with one business looking to relocate earlier than it had planned.

Recruitment firm Macildowie is on the hunt for new offices for its 40 staff after a planning application for a 167-bedroom student scheme to based at its current base was submitted to Nottingham City Council by Trent Pads, which is headed up by local property entrepreneur Taj Ubhi.

If the application is granted, Macildowie’s offices at Archer House on Castle Gate will become the latest city centre building to be turned into student accommodation.

James Taylor, managing director of Macildowie, is tight lipped about the plans for the firm’s current offices.

He told TheBusinessDesk.com: “Macildowie has grown, and this continued success means that we’ve had an office relocation in mind for a while. Though the lease of Macildowie’s Nottingham premises isn’t due to expire until mid 2018, we have been preparing to move to a bigger and better city centre space for the last 18 months.

“Our first priority was to ensure we were well prepared for this move, and so last year we invested in an upgraded communications network, allowing us to implement a new VoIP phone system which we can take anywhere. We also transferred our servers off-site to get all the benefits of a high security, private cloud.

“Macildowie has had a fantastic start to 2016 across all the East Midlands based offices, and with our new brand now launched we can begin to look for the perfect premises to continue this success in future years.”

Last year Nottingham City Council released a report committing itself to supporting further city centre student accommodation after it found that the vacancy rate in the schemes is as low as 1.6 per cent.
