Cartwright packs a punch with new boxing partnership

Nottingham based PR agency Cartwright Communications has announced it will be working with BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero Marcellus Baz BEM.

The agency is set to work with him as he launches his new not-for-profit organisation The Marcellus Baz Group and expands his operation to help more young people through sport.

Cartwright will be providing press office services and maximising the Group’s fundraising potential through strategic business partnerships. This support comes at a crucial time for the organisation which needs to raise £500,000 before August 2017 to secure a permanent home.

Marcellus Baz, managing director of the group, said: “To continue the work we do for 800 young people in Nottingham we need to maximise our profile and find new sponsors, Cartwright’s help will be really essential in doing this.

“Our plan is not just to raise the money to secure the current home of the Nottingham School of Boxing, but to expand into the rest of the building to provide further opportunities for young people to learn new skills, gain confidence, and have a place to turn when needed.

“I’m also increasingly being asked to go to other countries to help them set up similar organisations in troubled communities; setting up the group and having formal marketing and communications help will support this growth.”

Liz Cartwright, managing director of Cartwright Communications, said: “Marcellus is an incredibly inspirational person and the work he and his team do every day for young people in the Midlands is staggering.

“Our agency prides itself on its ability to build business networks so we’ll be putting that into action to support fundraising in any way possible, as well as fielding the many national media calls and event requests Marcellus receives on a daily basis.

“Having a chosen charity is a great way to bring the agency together and choosing a cause where we can apply our professional expertise as well as fundraise through our own activities is ideal.”

Marcellus Baz, who was heading for a career as a professional boxer before a knife attack, set up the Nottingham School of Boxing to give young people a place to learn the discipline of sport and avoid gang violence.

Following this, he created ‘Switch-Up’, an organisation that provides wider mentorship support. It was recently announced that both brands were being relaunched to become known as The Marcellus Group.
