Nottingham gets green light for 210,000 sq ft office scheme

Plans have been approved for over 210,000 sq ft of new office space at one of Nottingham’s premier business locations which could provide up to 1,000 jobs.

Nottingham City Council have given the go-ahead for Miller Birch to build 210,176 sq ft of office space across five development plots and extend its NG2 business park.

Miller Birch has also been given the green light to build a 55,864 sq ft car dealership, restaurant or hotel.

Any new development would be sited on Queens Drive, next to the Experian building. The site was previously occupied by the Royal Ordnance Factory which was closed in 2001 when the operations transferred to sites in Leicester and Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

Outline planning permission was granted in June 2002 for the development of the site, along with the rest of the NG2 business park, although this had lapsed.

A statement from architects Maber said: “Miller Birch wish to submit a new outline planning application to provide planning certainty, and to present the opportunity for responding quickly to market.”

A planning report from Quod states: “The recent completion of NET has improved the Site’s accessibility. It is an attractive location for businesses looking to locate in Nottingham, and in light of past take up rates it is estimated that the scale of offices on the site would provide up to 12 years of supply.”

NG2 was established in 2002 and includes large headquarter office buildings as well as smaller pavilion style units. At the east of the NG2 site fronting Queens Drive is the headquarters building for Experian, a Mercedes showroom and a Homebase store.

Further into the site are 3-4 storey office headquarter buildings and beyond these are smaller 2-storey office pavilions. Residents include Experian, Speedo, Specsavers and the Bank of England.

The most recent building at NG2 is the global headquarters for Speedo.
