Diamond food and drink awards shortlist revealed

THE shortlist has been revealed for an awards scheme celebrating the finest food and drinks producers across the West Midlands.

More than 230 different products were entered into the fourth Diamond Awards, which is run by regional food group Heart of England Fine Foods.

Among the many shortlisted companies are Leominster-based Tyrrells Potato Chips, Church Stretton mineral water producer Wenlock Spring and chutney producer Asiri Foods from Malvern.

Companies based in Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Birmingham and the Black Country were eligible to enter with 10 awards celebrating products and three ‘diamond’ awards for achievements.

Product category champions will go head-to-head to win the Special Diamond Award for ‘taste’ which will be the final award presented on the night.

A new prize for the 2011 has also been introduced celebrating the best new businesses.

The winners will be revealed on May 21, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, by BBC Midlands presenter Suzanne Virdee.

Heart of England Fine Foods is headquartered in Shrewsbury and manages the Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre for growing businesses on behalf of owners Shropshire Council, with funding from Advantage West Midlands.
