Vamps cut their teeth on Drayton Manor’s new Air Race

STAFFORDSHIRE’S Drayton Manor Theme Park has launched its latest £1.2m thrill ride attraction – with the help of the UK’s hottest pop band, The Vamps.

The teen heart-throbs – Bradley Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans – , tried out the Air Race ride when they visited the park as part of a launch promotion.

Air Race, takes riders on a stomach-churning aerial adventure, turning their world upside down at a height of up to eight metres. Accommodating up to 24 riders at one time in six, four-seater aeroplanes, ‘pilots’ will experience accelerations of almost 4G as they board the acrobatic aeroplane flight.

Riders take their seat preparing for take-off, gliding from side to side at increasing heights whilst circling around the control tower. Before long, a series of gravity defying barrel rolls in both directions enables riders to experience soaring and diving, together with banks, loops, dives and the sensation of weightlessness.

The eagerly anticipated new thrill ride has been launched ahead of the park’s busiest time of the year. The new addition will complete the line-up of rides in the Action Park area of the park alongside thrill-seeker favourites Maelstrom, G-Force and Europe’s only stand-up rollercoaster, Shockwave.

Colin Bryan, CEO and Group Managing Director of Drayton Manor Theme Park, said: “Air Race has been a highly anticipated addition to the park, and the atmosphere here today has reflected this.

“The Vamps really helped bring the event to life with a fantastic acoustic performance, making this something that will be remembered for years to come.”
