300 flat mixed-use scheme planned for Leicester city centre

Plans have been submitted for a mixed-used residential and retail scheme off Vaughan Way in Leicester city centre.
The site, which is currently owned by Ingleby (1245) and is currently redundant brownfield land, could be transformed into 25 studio flats, 151 one-bedroom flats, 124 two-bedroom flats and 14,143 sq ft food store and speculative commercial space. There will also be room for 120 cars.
The 11-storey scheme will be designed by Franklin Ellis if it gets planning approval.
The original plans for the scheme date back to 2014 when Sowden Developments was brought on board. Sowden is currently building Mattiolio Woods’s new Leicester headquarters on the site of the former New Walk Centre.
Original designs, which named the development as Highcross Point, from 2014 show a tower of some 18 storeys, although this has now been downgraded to 11. These plans also outline plans for a Decathlon retail store, although this doesn’t appear in the revised plans.
