Pro cricketer signs up with Rams

Matt Cassar

He once starred with the bat at the County Ground but now former Derbyshire cricketer Matt Cassar is making a name for himself at the iPro Stadium after his company became a club partner with Derby County.

Cassar has agreed a deal with the Rams for the rest of the season to promote his company Finance Advice Centre on the two large LED big screens outside the ground and on the pitch-side hordings during the game.

Finance Advice Centre, which has its UK headquarters in Raynesway, has also launched its own Derby County supporters offer and will be giving out Rams season tickets and match-day hospitality via prize draws throughout the rest of the season.

Cassar, who played for Derbyshire between 1994 and 2000, set up Finance Advice Centre in 2014. It has 50 advisers and admin staff and specialises in arranging mortgages for people whose financial history mean they are struggling to get a deal.

He said: “I love sport and I know from my time playing for the county how much the Derby public love their sport too, so I’ve always wanted to try and give something back if possible.

“This club partnership gives me an opportunity to do that, as well as help Finance Advice Centre raise its profile and reach out to more people who think their dream of owning their own home is over just because they have had their mortgage refused by their bank or building society.

“I was lucky enough to play for Derbyshire when both the cricket and football teams were enjoying great success. The buzz that created in the city was incredible and I’m confident that Steve McClaren is the right person to bring those days back to Derby County.

“We’re delighted to be lending our support to the club at such an exciting time.”

Derby County’s president and chief executive Sam Rush said: “We’re pleased to welcome Finance Advice Centre as our newest club partner for the rest of the 2016/17 season.

“We look forward to working with them over the coming months and hope to build and develop a long-lasting relationship with them.”
