East Midlands busiest railway stations revealed in new figures

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has published estimates of railway station usage in the UK – revealing the busiest stations in the East Midlands.

Nottingham is the busiest station in the region, according to the ORR, with 7.2 million users between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2016. Next comes Leicester with 5.2 million users, Derby with 3.7 million, Northampton with 3 million and Lincoln with 1.7 million.

Birmingham New Street remains the busiest station outside of London over the period, with just over 39 million entries and exits.

Nationally, Waterloo continues to top the list of Britain’s busiest stations with almost 100 million journeys in 2015/16.

There are 2,557 mainline stations in the UK. Fourteen more were added over the period.
