Logged-off: Thomas Ward, Ward Recycling

Thomas Ward

Thomas Ward, commercial manager at Ward Recycling is one of six family members involved in the family business which specialises in waste management and metal recycling. During the week his main focus is buying ferrous and non-ferrous metals for processing and export. He tells us how he likes to wind down at the weekends.

How do you relax at the weekend?
Most weekends I enjoy going out for a meal with either my fiancée or my family. There is nothing better than sharing a good meal (especially Sunday lunch) with those closest to you.

How many hours do you work at the weekend on average?
Thankfully I don’t work at the weekends anymore. When I was younger and I had various roles including site manager, weighbridge operator and site assistant at our Woodville site I used to work every Saturday from 7am until 12pm.

What’s your favourite:

– Holiday destination? Puerto Portals, Majorca. I am fortunate enough to go there several times during the year and I never tire of visiting it.

– Book? The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. A truly inspiring read.

– Album? Hope and Fears by Keane. For me the best album ever made.

– Food? You cannot beat a good Indian meal. This is a family favourite we all enjoy and I am no exception. Being from Derbyshire we are spoilt with a great selection of Indian cuisine locally.

– TV programme? Come Dine with Me. It is always entertaining and never too serious. An easy watch after a long day at work.

– Website or app? Sky sports – football, without hesitation. I come from a family who passionately support both Derby County and Manchester City with corporate boxes at both clubs. I follow both clubs online as well as enjoying reading about football from around the world.

How do you usually spend Sunday evenings?
Sundays evening are spent at home with my fiancée Louise and our three dogs; James (a Beagle), Klaus (Miniature Schnauzer) and Frank (Miniature Dachshund). Frequently we will share a takeaway to prepare us for the new week ahead.
