Logged-off: Matthew Maiden, Banner Jones

How does the director solicitor and head of the commercial law department at the Mansfield office of Banner Jones wind down at the weekend? We found out…

How do you relax at the weekend?
I like to get away as much as possible in the caravan, with my wife and twodaughters. We love to just spend time locally in the Nottinghamshire countryside with one of our favourite campsites being at Haxey Quays, near Misterton. When we all live such fast paced lives, you can’t beat the feeling of getting away from it all.

How many hours do you work at the weekend on average?
The development of technology and the constant access to emails has extended the working week for many and whilst really helping professionals like me to stay on top of their work, it does now mean that you could say that you are always at work! I am a strong believer of a healthy work life balance and I think when you work hard in the week it’s important to allow your mind and body to relax, so I do try to refrain from checking my emails too often at the weekend.

What’s your favourite?
– Holiday destination? Anywhere in the Caribbean – the blue water and stretches of white sand really are stunning. Cuba was an amazing holiday; there really is something magical about the old-school cars lined up on Havana sea front.
– Album? It’s so hard to decide on just one! But it would have to be Metallica’s album …And Justice For All, it’s the sound of my youth.
– Food? It hands down has to be Indian food, the hotter the better, especially when you can really taste the layers of the spices. My favourite Indian restaurant is The Mangrove in Mansfield
– Website or app? Sky News App – I think the majority of people are turning to apps that offer alerts to get the most up-to-speed news updates.

How do you usually spend Sunday evenings?
My Sundays are rarely spent with my feet up – being father of two I am often running around after the girls. I spend every Sunday evening at a swimming pool, where my daughter has training with her swimming club. I can’t complain really, it’s great to watch your daughter doing something that she loves, with the potential of it leading somewhere career-wise. On the odd occasion that I get to sit at home, I’ll be sat in front of the television, cup of tea and biscuit in hand!
