300 student flats get green light in Derby

How the new scheme might look

Plans to build over 300 student flats in Derby city centre have been given formal approval by the City Council this week.

The flats will be built on the junction of Cathedral Road, Willow Road and Walker Lane on a site that has been derelict for a number of years.

London & UK Property submitted an application for the site via Leeds-based Cartwright Pickard to build 319 one-bedroom flats on the site, which was once home to a nightclub.

Planning permission was granted in 2008 for the site for the erection of a mixed used development comprising of retail units and office accommodation. However, this permission was never implemented and has now lapsed. Planning permission was refused in 2010 for the retention of a temporary surface car park and enforcement action was taken to ensure the closure of the
unauthorised car park.
