Investment company plans 65-bedroom Derby student block

Derby could be about to get a new 65-bedroom student scheme if plans submitted to the City Council are given the green light.

CBP Architects of Nottingham have drawn up plans for the 18,300 sq ft development, developed by ALB Commercial Investments, to be called St Peters House on Gower Street in the city which links the Intu Derby shopping centre with the Cathedral Quarter area.

CBP says the building with be five storeys high. In a planning statement, the company says: “The proposed scheme seeks to support the local plan in terms of design and sustainability matters.

“From a streetscape perspective, adjacent dwellings have been respected whilst offering full potential for the development site. The design has fully considered the historic character of the area and the vital interactive relationship with it.

“The development complements its’ environment and would offer up a good example of the standard of development that would allow this part of city centre to continue to develop.”

ALB Commercial Investments aims to buy and develop large investment blocks and to sell the lease holds and retain the freeholds.
