Logged-off: Matt Wrate, Couch Perry Wilkes

Matt Wrate

Matt Wrate is a director at Couch Perry Wilkes, a national M&E consultancy and is based in the company’s Leicester office. Here’s how he unwinds at the weekend.

How do you relax at the weekend?
I enjoy spending time in the garden with my 18-month-old son – he’s hilarious and watching him discover nature this summer has been really special for me and my wife.

When I’m not relaxing in the company of my family, I am usually found generating stress through my Nottingham Forest season ticket. I’m genetically obliged to attend.

How many hours do you work at the weekend on average?
The average is about two, but it’s usually only to manage peaks in workload.

What’s your favourite?…

– Holiday destination? Japan. My wife and I spent our last holiday without children in Japan and we were not disappointed. What struck us most was the politeness and respect that is embedded within their culture. Having the chance to play with Samurai swords was fun too.

– Book? My son and I are currently loving Dear Zoo – the pop-up edition, of course. The monkey page is our favourite.

– Album? Nostalgia makes me say Definitely Maybe by Oasis as it was the album of my youth and it brings back so many fond memories, But if it were based the album I most listened to, it would have to be Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland.

– Food? Nothing beats a Sunday roast beef with all the trimmings. I enjoy cooking in general and the engineer in me, and my collection of gadgets, ensures the beef is kept pink with military precision.

– TV programme? Match of the Day

– Website or app? Shazam – I’m not sure how I survived without Shazam. Whilst it has resulted in some dubious purchases, I love going back through tags to discover new music.

How do you usually spend Sunday evenings?
Usually finishing a glass of red wine and trying to stay awake for Match of the Day, but the last fortnight has been spent googling weird and wonderful wildlife in relation to Blue Planet – if only David Attenborough was on every Sunday night.
