Plans revealed for mixed-use scheme next to railway station

How the new scheme could look

A disused cinema next to Nottingham Railway Station could be turned into a mixed-use scheme, TheBusinessDesk.com has learned.

I H Moore and Company wants to turn the run down building on Queens Road into 39 apartments and retail units. The building would be made up of nine- and six-storey towers that will house 39 one- and two-bedroom flats.

If the scheme goes ahead, it will form part of a widespread regeneration of the southern gateway into Nottingham that includes the redevelopment the intu Broadmarsh, the rebuilding of the Broadmarsh Bus Station and Car Park, the wholescale refurbishment of the City Buildings by Shoby Investments and student accommodation and office schemes by Bildurn on Station Street. Nottingham City Council also has plans to build an large office scheme on Crocus Street, opposite a separate residential development of 422 flats. Finally, HMRC is set to move into Unity Square in 2021.

A statement from Core Architects said: “The development will deliver short term economic benefits through the construction period and modest benefit from economic spend from new residents and in the creation of two new retail units. The proposed scheme will deliver a high quality environment which is accessible to local services meeting the community’s needs.”
