On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Wendy O'Connor and Nick Giles

A former chef, who switched careers to become an accountant, has recently come out with top marks in the Chartered Institute of Taxation exams.

Nick Giles, who works for Nottingham-based firm Page Kirk, changed direction whilst working in the food industry, starting his accountancy studies while still dazzling diners with his culinary skills.

Recently, the CIOT – the UK’s number one taxation body – awarded him a distinction for his paper on Inheritance Tax, Trusts and Estates in Administration, an area he now specialises in. What’s more, Giles achieved the top grades in the East Midlands for his last set of exams.

“I would have been happy just to pass these exams, so to do so well has been amazing,” said Giles. “The CTA exams are pitched at a really high level and being able to reach that standard has been helped massively by Page Kirk giving me so much responsibility and exposure to varied and complex work from early on in my career, as well as their support for my studies. I am now enjoying using the technical knowledge that I’ve gained to help our clients and hope to continue to add to the range and depth of tax services that we as a firm can offer.”

Page Kirk Tax partner Wendy O’Connor said: “We are extremely proud of Nick. It is a remarkable achievement, which also sets a precedent for the rest of the team. Nick is very hard-working and deserves to be recognised in this way. He is not just academic but also excels in customer service and always goes above and beyond for our clients. I’m excited to see how his career progresses with Page Kirk.”

Lincoln based marketing and design agency Purple Robot has hired two new designers.

Nicole Purdy joins Purple Robot as a graphic designer, having previously been a designer at Lincoln cosmetics firm, Beauty Boulevard.

Also joining the company is Chris Leontiou. Having completed a degree in media production at the University of Lincoln, Chris is taking on the role of marketing intern.

Founder and managing director of Purple Robot, Damien Howard-Pask, said: “I’m thrilled to be welcoming Nicole and Chris to the Purple Robot team. Both of them have really impressed me with their skill and passion for helping businesses to stand out and look good and I know they’ll help us reach new heights.”
