Sports Direct in battle to save Jack Wills, say reports

Shirebrook-based Sports Direct is in the running to buy high-end fashion chain Jack Wills, according to reports.

Sky News says that Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley and fellow billionaire Philip Day’s Edinburgh Woollen Mill are locked in a battle to rescue the cash-strapped chain.

Sky News says a decision will be made about Jack Wills over coming days, describing the restructuring of the business as “inevitable” – with job losses likely.

The news comes a week after Sports Direct’s bizarre trading update – a 21,000-word diatribe in which Ashley expressed his regret at having rescued House of Fraser after uncovering further financial woes at the chain since it was bought out of administration.

Jack Wills employs 1,800 people at 110 stores.
