East Midlands firms have a strong track record of handing opportunities to young people, and 2019 has seen a wide variety of companies continue to invest in the next generation.

Today we bring you the latest trainee appointments in the region.

In Nottingham, Auction Estates has appointed Mohammed Caratella as a trainee auctioneer.

Caratella, who has recently completed his master’s degree in International Real Estate Investment and Finance at Nottingham Trent University, is moving from Leicester to begin his career in Nottingham’s bustling property market.

Paul Giles, head auctioneer at Auction Estates, said: “After a competitive interview process we were delighted to have secured Mohammed as part of our growing team as Auction Estates continues to invest in Nottingham as a city and its leading university Nottingham Trent.”

Keith Agar, head of the MSc in Real Estate at Nottingham Trent University, oversaw Caratella’s master’s degree and has been pivotal in placing high calibre students with a wide variety of property companies both in Nottingham and further afield.

He said: “It has been a pleasure having Mohammed on our course and I am delighted that he has joined the exciting team at Auction Estates. He has a very bright future!”

Caratella added: “I have been monitoring the rapid growth of Auction Estates and how successful they have been in such a short period of time. They have a prestigious client base throughout the UK and specialise in the disposal of property on behalf of LPA Receivers, Probate and Pension Fund disposals which is an area of work I am particularly interested in.”

Meanwhile, over in Leicester, Newby Castleman has recruited two school leavers as trainee chartered accountants.

Ameera Aziz has joined the firm’s Regent Road office from Leicester Grammar School, where she earned A Levels in Maths, Economics and Spanish.

She previously completed a period of work experience with Newby Castleman in 2016 and subsequently sought a permanent role with the firm.

Fellow trainee George Hincks, who also joins the Regent Road office, left Ashby School this year with A Levels in Economics, Business and Geography.

He has already begun working under Mark Goodman, one of the firm’s managers.

Aziz said: “What I’m enjoying most at the moment is the variety of taking on a different job every day, each with its own challenges: I feel this will help me to become well-rounded. It’s also the best feeling when you manage to balance the bank! I can honestly say, too, that I’ve been supported 24/7 since the day I started in the role.

“Ultimately, I’d like to work my way up to accounts manager as I’m really enjoying the nature of the work I’ve done so far.”

Hincks added: “Newby Castleman stood out to me as a particularly reliable and supportive employer for trainees. I definitely feel this already – everyone is really friendly and I’m comfortable in the role. So far, I’ve found it interesting to learn about how real businesses run, through charting their cash flow over the course of the year.

“I’m most looking forward to the training and professional development courses I’ll be attending over the next few years, applying the skills and knowledge I learn there at work, and eventually becoming chartered!”
